Two questions decide your price
Everything else is detail. Answer these before you buy hardware.
Does your panel have capacity and open slots? A 48-amp Level 2 charger is a continuous load, so under NEC 625 the circuit is sized at 125 percent of it: a 60-amp breaker and matching conductor. Run conduit once. If a second charger is plausible later, upsizing conduit now costs very little compared with trenching twice.
Check for incentives before you sign. The federal credit, and any Entergy or state prograe current at the time, changes the net figure meaningfully. Verify what is actually in effect when you buy rather than relying on an article, including this one.
Permits are not optional
Adding a 240-volt dedicated circuit is permitted work in Orleans Parish, and permits run $50 to $300. A 48-amp continuous load on an uninspected circuit is not a casual thing, and unpermitted charger installs are a recurring problem at resale and with insurers.
Hardwired or plug-in
