About New Orleans Electrical Services

What we do

New Orleans Electrical Services is a free service that connects New Orleans homeowners and businesses with licensed, insured electrical contractors working across Orleans Parish, plus Jefferson, Plaquemines and St. Bernard Parish. The work splits into emergency response, diagnostic and repair, service and panel upgrades, whole and partial rewiring, standby generator installation, EV charger circuits, whole-house surge protection, and commercial fit-out and correction work.

The standards we work to

Louisiana enforces the 2020 National Electrical Code, adopted by the Louisiana State Uniform Construction Code Council with an effective date of January 1, 2023. On July 7, 2026 the LSUCCC approved adoption of the 2023 NEC. Every job we do is designed and inspected against the edition in force for that permit, and we will tell you which one applies to yours.

In practice that means load calculations under NEC Article 220 before a service is sized, grounding and bonding brought to Article 250 rather than left as found, GFCI and AFCI protection placed per 210.8 and 210.12 according to how the room is actually used, and surge protective devices specified to UL 1449.

Licensing and insurance

All electrical work arranged through this site is performed by a Louisiana-licensed, insured electrical contractor.

Ask to see the license and a current certificate of insurance before work begins, and verify the license with the issuing board rather than taking it on trust. Any legitimate contractor hands both over without hesitating, and one that hesitates has told you something useful. In Louisiana a state contractor license is required for commercial and industrial projects and for electrical work on a project exceeding $10,000, and working unlicensed where a license is required is a misdemeanor.

How we price

Ranges are published on this site with their sources cited, because the first thing anyone wants to know is what something costs and making people call to find out wastes everyone's time. Those ranges are researched market data for this metro. They are not quotes. Every job gets a written number after we have seen the work, and that number does not move once work begins unless the scope changes and you agree to it first.

Diagnostic visits are $95 to $145 and credited in full against the repair. There is no separate after-hours surcharge on the diagnostic.

Permits

We pull them. Any work that adds a circuit, alters a circuit, or changes the service requires an electrical permit, and the permit is held by the contractor doing the work. We file it, schedule the inspection, meet the inspector, and hand you the permit and the sign-off. If a contractor asks you to pull an owner permit for work they are doing, they are moving liability onto you.

Not because we think those things do not matter, but because we do not have them yet and inventing them is both dishonest and, under the FTC Consumer Review Rule, illegal. Service area

New Orleans and Orleans Parish, plus Jefferson, Plaquemines and St. Bernard Parish. Same-day response is standard across Orleans and Jefferson Parish. Plaquemines and St. Bernard are scheduled in routed blocks, which keeps the travel cost sane.
